Bernanke at Jackson Hole – most likely a tinkering, not a big program

If anything does come from Bernanke’s speech on Friday it will probably be along these lines; something small and relatively uncontroversial … no big programs.

the chairman is not yet ready to take dramatic action to help jar the economy out of its current malaise …
There is a sense among Fed watchers that if the Fed wants to do something, the best and most likely option will be to extend the average maturity of the securities it holds.
